What mattered then was that it was (1) super cheap and (2) super simple to manufacture. All civilians were advised that these gas masks would last up to 24 hours. It was used as a way of preventing the inhalation of toxic and radioactive substances, including bacterial agents.
Lastly, we have the air that passes through the inhale valve which is then passed into the mask through Tissot tubes which are located beneath the lenses. The bottom is made of metal and inside is a 40mm filter inlet. The case for that filter is made of lead and everything issued with the mask is placed inside a khaki fabric bag with two straps (one around the waist and another over the shoulder). The bag has two pockets that would contain bandages and a decontamination kit.
The upgraded version, the GP-7, came in as a civilian-issued version of the PMK-1 and was preceded by the GP-5m. It had a rounded lens and 40mm filter similar to the GP-5. And the biggest difference was the added drinking tube which wrapped around the voice diaphragm and attached to an exhale valve. The gas mask also included a rubber five-point harness, and a rubber flap around the inside that would help create a better seal. The set comes in a cloth bag with the mask, a filter canister, a plastic or metal canteen, ballistic outsert lenses and anti-fog stickers.
The Serbian M-1 was originally created for the troops during the Yugoslav wars. In later years, it would be employed by the Iraqi Army during the Gulf War (the M-1 was known also during this time as the M-59). There are variations to this gas mask, such as the MC-1 which is almost identical to the M-1 but specific to civilian use and has an oral nasal cup. It was produced in the late 1960s and lasted till 1995. The respirator was only available until 2005 and the filter does not have asbestos, but it does contain chromium (still a hazard to breathe in). Also, similar to the most other surplus gas masks, the filter is hard to identify and thus hard to replace.
Production for this updated model began in the early 1980s and served as an essential part of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Today it is still being utilized by the CAF, but is slowly being replaced by the model C-5. The reason this is on our avoid list is because the original black masks have adhesive issues. Also, the mask comes with two separate eyepieces rather than a single faceplate, so the field of vision is more obstructed. If you do prefer this style of gas mask, we recommend you find the green or tan versions. Notable mentions for this mask that we thought worked well was that the filter can be mounted on the right or left, which could be quite the tactical advantage.
The gas mask, even during this time, was growing in popularity as a product of security and safety, but also visually as something quite frightening and dystopian in relation to war and nuclear devastation. This has shown useful in varying forms of popular media such as movies, fashion/art, video games, ect.
In the YouTube video below, Weaponsandstuff93 gives an overview of the gas masks and respirators that were shown in video game titles: Metro 2033 and Metro 2033 Redux. Some are fictitious (creating a hybrid of two masks), while others were taken exactly from our surplus list.
Without a doubt, the CM-6M gas mask is a fan favorite. This is a modern tactical respirator that is still in professional use today by multiple NATO agencies and military units such as the Czech Republic Armed Forces.
This state-of-the-art gas mask, accompanied with a transparent hooded design, allows children to stay safe while expressing themselves. Not all gas masks have to be intimidating, and this one proves that flawlessly.
The mask is manufactured from a rubber mixture that resists the penetration of chemical agents, is lightweight, and allows maximum comfort, effective communication, a large field of view, and the ability to drink fluids while using it. The mask can also connect to an external air blower via a flexible hose using the appropriate adapters (provided separately per customer requirements) and can be transformed into an active protection system. The mask has a long shelf life, up to 20 years in the original packaging. The mask is provided with an NBC filter, a liquid drinking tube. Manufacturing is according to the IDF technical specifications (strictest standards of a protection system).
I was surprised how quickly and well this mask conformed to my face. When I put it on only a couple adjustments are needed before testing for tightness by covering the intake opening as directed Instantly when the opening is covered I cannot inhale because no air is available. Then when the opening is uncovered I can inhale freely. This occurs when a canister is attached also. I forgot to try drinking through the straw--I'll try that later. The only problem I found was the difficulty of wearing glasses with the mask. My vision is tolerable without glasses so this was not a huge problem for me.
McGuire offered this Israeli Gas mask as a prize for an essay contest, so it came to me as a reward, of sorts. However, I am so pleased that this has come to me. This is the real deal, and it significantly ups my preparedness for possible NBC events I may experience. The package came promptly and in good condition. The directions are in English, Hebrew, Arabic, and Russian, and are easy to understand. It came with two NBC air filters, with an expiration date of 2040. I'm happy to say that I have not needed to use it yet, but it's quality gives me confidence should that day arrive.
The Civilian Israeli G.I. Gas Mask with Filter is a lightweight gas mask designed for use in an emergency situation. This gas mask is designed to protect the eyes and face, and it has impact-resistant lenses. It features adjustable straps and a filter included. Some may even include a straw apparatus. It is intended for adult civilian use.
INCLUDES Original Issue Sealed Filter These new-like Israeli Simplex Gas Masks are standard issue to Israeli Citizens in the event of war, evacuation, or terrorism. These are the current civilian GENERATION II gas masks (not the old Gen I old style masks usually found elsewhere). Mask INCLUDES a built-in straw adaptor that will allow the drinking of water without having to remove your mask. This feature is a must in our opinion to rehydrate yourself when using your gas mask. Changing the filter cartridge takes less than 15 seconds..
Important Note:Like most gas masks made, the Israeli gas masks will not perform correctly for men with facial hair or beards (most trimmed mustaches are ok). We suggest testing your mask for a correct seal by putting it on without a filter attached. This test is done by placing the palm of your hand snuggly over the masks filter opening and inhaling. The mask should suck in towards your face and remain tightly sealed (5 to 10 seconds). If air leaks through anywhere around the perimeter of the mask seal, the mask will NOT provide safe protection.
INCLUDES Original Issue Sealed Filter These are the same as the adult mask, just scaled down in size to fit children most children from 8 years or older. These are standard issue to Israeli Citizens in the event of war, evacuation, or terrorism. These are the current civilian GENERATION II gas masks. Mask INCLUDES a built-in straw adaptor that will allow the drinking of water without having to remove your mask. This feature is a must in our opinion to rehydrate yourself when using your gas mask. Before retiring/forced out under disability, I was a HazMat Team member. We were fitted with the Survivair 4000 Full Face Respirators, and issued two. One set up for standard 40mm filter cartridges, and the other with Adaptor for use with the PAPR HEPA Unit. Though I was able to retain my masks, the PAPRs were kept on the Response Vehicle, so I couldn't take it with me.95's and 100s are worthless against viruses for the most part. More viruses are smaller than .3 microns than larger.. Considering there's evidence that CoVid may have spread through microdroplet into the eyes (your tears drain right into your nose). What's the biggest threat we'll likely face in a SHTF situation If it's nuclear, we're pretty much screwed unless you live somewhere with zero fallout, and the chance of very long isotope half lifes is very high. If it's chemical, it'll depend on what chemical and the same goes for biological. The main reason I see for a mask is use against tear gas and other irritants the corrupt dictatorial government will use against us when they attempt to disarm us.
I call BS. I have the O2 tactical mask, and it is ridiculously uncomfortable. It crushes your chin right below your lip if you can get it to seal above the nose. And good luck wearing glasses with it, they are pushed up by the nose ridge. What a joke and waste of $225 x 2. . . and I preordered the damned thing! All hype - and I seriously wonder what troll or dwarf they fitted this thing for. Trying to talk with it on is even more painful. Lesson learned. I DO NOT participate in crowd funding crappola anymore - every single one has been a let down in one way or another.
A nearby industrial complex vents organic solvents. They variously smell like acetone, gasoline vapor, or an organic drying agent. Venting will typically start at about 4am, so It is pretty easy to sleep through and wake up with a headache. 1) Please can someone recommend an inexpensive detector with an alarm 2) Can someone recommend a half mask that would take carbon filters that would be usable for a week or more without having to change cartridges Being able to pack both a particle filter and carbon filter, or two carbon cartridges, per side, would be an advantage. 3) Can carbon cartridges be set out, placed in an oven, blown with a hair dryer, or be left in the sun to get them to out gas so that they may be used again Who sells replacement cartridges for a reasonable price per hour of use This will probably drive the decision for which new mask to get. 4) And on a bit of a different topic, can a 3M8577 be washed and reused They seem fine after being carefully washed in the sink with a mild soap and rinse, then dried, but do they still work Thanks in advance for your considerate replies. 59ce067264
